Maura Timmerman – Reading Specialist

Mrs. Timmerman was born in Erie, Pennsylvania. During and after completing high school, she entered the business world working for FW Woolworth Company as a sales associate. After 5 years in retail she secured a position with a local floor covering distributor and held various positions ranging from customer service to head of the claims department. Mrs. Timmerman worked there for 14 years before being downsized. It was at that point she decided to return to school to obtain her teaching degree from Gannon University in Erie. Maura Timmerman graduated in December, 1995 with a BS in Education.

Mrs. Timmerman taught for 4 years in Pennsylvania at the same school she attended as a child. It was a great opportunity for her to “give back” to the school that had given so much to her. In 2000, she moved to Florida looking for a change. The past 14 years she has been teaching primarily reading and working in the elementary-intermediate grades in various schools in Osceola County. She earned her ESOL Endorsement in 2004 and her K-12 Reading Endorsement in 2009.

Mrs. Timmerman’s favorite quote: “Education is not the filling of a bucket, but the lighting of a fire” by William Butler Yeats. Her goal is to instill that fire in her students to become life-long learners and readers. She is very excited to begin her tenure at New Dimensions teaching Intensive Reading.
