Mrs. Nivar was born in The Dominican Republic, in the capital city of Santo Domingo. She grew up in a middle-class neighborhood and attended Catholic schools from elementary through high school. Right after high school she went to college and earned a Bachelor’s degree in Hospitality Management from APEC University. After college, she got married and moved to the United States in 1996 to the state of New Jersey. In New Jersey she worked for several years in the Hospitality Industry as a housekeeping shift Manager. In 2001, she went back to school to get a degree in Spanish Literature and Education. She graduated in 2003 and almost right away was hired as a Spanish teacher at Absegami High School where she thought Spanish for 13 years.
In 2015, she and her family relocated to Orlando, Florida and she began teaching at Renaissance Charter School in Hunter’s Creek before she transferred to Freedom High School. Finally, she began teaching at New Dimensions High School where she is doing her first year. Mrs. Nivar is very excited and she is willing to help all her students at new Dimensions High School learn the Spanish language.
Mrs. Nivar is also certified to teach AP Spanish Literature and Culture. Mrs. Nivar incorporates cultural activities so her students can appreciate and learn about the Spanish speaking countries through videos, presentations, projects, and she also encourages her students to express themselves in Spanish talking about a current event and applying the grammar and vocabulary learned with activities they do on daily basis.
