John Timmerman – Social Studies Teacher

Mr. Timmerman, also frequently called “Mr. T” at New Dimensions, was born in Takoma Park, MD. He grew up in Rockville, MarylandTimmerman1.jpgTimmerman2.jpg which is just a few miles outside of Washington, D.C. It is in that setting, so close to all the excitement of our Nation’s Capital, that he developed a love for history and government. After graduating high school and while going to college at the University of Maryland -College Park campus, he started a Flower Shop business with his father. He later worked with the Nuclear Regulatory Agency in the summer.

After moving to Oklahoma, he continued college at Oklahoma State University. He earned money to put himself through school driving a school bus and found his calling working with students. At OSU, he obtained an undergraduate degree in Business Management as well as an undergraduate degree in Secondary Education, with History as a major. Upon graduating from OSU, he moved to Kissimmee, FL where he has been an educator in Osceola County since 1989.

Mr. Timmerman obtained his Master’s degree in Elementary Education at the University of Central Florida through the Lockheed Martin Scholar’s Program in 1998. Mr. Timmerman is happily married to his wife since 2001, who is also a teacher. Mr. Timmerman returned to school in 2003 to receive an advanced degree and subsequently obtained his Ed. Specialist degree in Educational Leadership from NOVA Southeastern University.

Mr. Timmerman has been a media specialist, school test coordinator, administrator, and teacher. He has been at New Dimensions High School where since 2007. He has taught Career Research and Decision Making, Voluntary Public Service, Global Studies, World History, American History, AP U.S. History, and AP Human Geography.  He is NDHS teacher of the year for 2014-2015.

Mr. Timmerman was Coach of the Year in 2013 and 2014 including facilitating a District Championship for Boys Cross Country and Regional and State Qualifiers for Track and Field. He is also the co-sponsor/advisor for the New Dimensions High School Interact Club (community service club) which has received many awards and recognitions for the community involvement. He has been involved in the community as a Rotarian for 10 years in the Rotary Club of Kissimmee West.
